Why need lamination for inkjet prints?



Uncoated dye or pigmented inkjet printouts even exposed indoor are loosing quality under influence of various environmental factors unexpected by an ordinary user. These factors are as follows:

• sources of artificial light which provoke UV fading,

• pollution gases in ambient air – ozone, NO2 and SO2 , force chemical reactions that can result in dye fading. Sources of these gases are: electronic equipment (e.g. laser printers, scanners, computer displays), heating, cigarettes smoke, smog, car pollutions etc.

• relative humidity level of 60% is enough to cause significant changes in the image quality

• high airflow (e.g., from air conditioning systems) can cause a significant rate of fading in an inkjet image,

• ink-media interactions – dyes are more stable, at a factor of two, on matte paper,

• The use of diluted ink, i.e., in a six-ink system to improve the highlights of an image, reduces the light-fastness of low and medium densities up to a factor of two,

• simultaneous UV exposure with airflow reduces the dye printout durability up to factor of three • uncoated printout is not fingerprint resistant, is not scratch resistant, is not waterproof.
